Legislation Update

What’s New?
I am proud to announce that all of my hard work was worth the long wait and heartache while making a difference in the world. Stay tuned— to new policies in the fall of 2020. Praise God!

Background
In September 2007, I began my journey, and I’ve dedicated my life—to the health, safety, and stability of our veterans and the aging population. And the protection of the “law-abiding” family caregivers on the backend of caregiving— who have dedicated their lives caring for their loved ones.

During that time, I’ve met with family caregivers from across the country, and numerous lawmakers from both Federal and State agencies talking about the problems family caregivers face while caring for loved ones. I have presented a step-by-step, cost-effective, and straightforward solutions that will make a tremendous difference amongst the aging population, as well as all ages.

I have committed my life to educate humanity—globally, with educational-focused based content. To date, I’ve written eight books, with five more in the making.

The Caregiver’s Companion: Caring for Your Loved One Medically, Financially and Emotionally While Caring for Yourself is in the Library of Congress, the libraries of Harvard, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and numerous other medical centers and universities. Designated as an Editor’s Choice, Carolyn A. Brent received the review of “excellent” by the Library Journal. Borrow A Copy Today!

Up Close

I want to take a moment to share with you a short memoir of CareGiverStory, Inc., Grandpa’s Dream, Across All Ages, and Deep Beauty so that you will have a greater appreciation for the work. Yes, it All Adds Up! Also, there is a movie in the making…

History of Grandpa’s Dream

In 2007, I made a promise to my father’s spirit that I would work closely with the State Legislators to assist in the creation of new laws and policies for safeguards for family caregivers…

Since then, I have been consistently contacting and meeting with the California Department of Aging and Assembly Members, Members of Congress, and policymakers to pass a bill to support law-abiding caregivers from adult sibling rivalry in connection with the end of life of a parent.

The Process

In 2007, after twelve years of being a caregiver for my father, I started focusing on creating change in the current laws to protect the law-abiding caregiver. During that time, I discovered that there were no books on the market on the subject of adult sibling rivalry in connection with the end of life of a parent.  So, I wrote the first book of the subject: Why Wait? The Baby Boomers’ Guide to Preparing Emotionally, Financially, and Legally for a Parent’s Death. A subsequent book, The Caregiver’s Companion: Caring for Your Loved One Medically, Financially and Emotionally While Caring for Yourself is on the shelves of leading libraries, medical centers, and universities throughout the world.

Across All Ages:  Health & Wellness

Secondly, I focused on my physical body. I was committed to learning how to manage my chronic pain without becoming dependent on opioids or other pharmaceutical drugs. I began researching sports medicine doctors with specific expertise in kinesiology, exercise physiology, and sports psychology theory. I also studied fitness development for athletic performance, treatments, and sports nutrition.

I started working around my injuries by integrating the therapeutic and preventive use of exercise. Then I took it to the next level and began training as a bodybuilder. I won first place in the Age 60 category and became a National Physique Committee (NPC) Masters Women’s Figure Champion, in 2016.

Deep Beauty

Finally, I focused on the body, mind, and spirit connection. I discovered a wellness institute with credentialed, trained professionals to help me master self-healing. I learned how to meditate mindfully. I began practicing daily the power of transmutation, an act that shifts anger to forgiveness and physical pain to physical wellness.

Over the past twelve years, I have been working tirelessly to reclaim authority over my mental, emotional, and physical health. The road I’ve traveled has been a long one as I transformed my life through self-care.

It started with an essential first step. I became the authority of my life.

What do I mean by this? You have probably figured out by now that I like clarity in language. It puts us on the same page so we can work together to achieve goals. So let’s take a look at the word “authority.”

The word has two meanings. The first is to be an expert on something, as in “She is an authority on eighteenth-century quilting techniques” or “He is an authority on the music of Bruce Springsteen.” Usually, being an authority relates to a specific skill or knowledge set.

Can you imagine anything more important than becoming an authority on your own life? To understand what makes your body feel best or how to find a serene place when you are agitated? To have in-depth knowledge of your past and present so you can move forward into the future? To know what you need to keep yourself healthy, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually? What could possibly be more deserving of your efforts?

The other meaning of “authority” is the power to command thought, opinion, or behavior, as in “the president has authority in the United States” or “my mom was the authority in our home.” This definition is equally relevant to transforming your life through self-care because it means that you have the power to command your thoughts and behavior. You can act on what you think and what you do.

You can take back your power—your authority—from things and people you have given it away to. You may have given away that power to a bad relationship or job. You may have given it away to doctors, without questioning. Learn more: Visit: amazon.com/author/carolynabrent

 A Tribute To  My Father

Pastor William L. Brent, Th.D., is the inspiration behind the vision, mission, and purpose of the creation of Caregiver’s Story Incorporated & Grandpa’s Dream. An organization with educational base content for spiritual growth, health, wellness, love, and restoration.

Grandpa’s Dream provides vital knowledge for the care and welfare of sick and disabled people and supports the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of caregivers.

Pastor William L. Brent earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Langston University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and certified in divinity from Victory Bible College, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He earned a master’s and a doctorate in theology from International Seminary, Plymouth, Florida, and Senior Pastor of the New Life Christian Center, Lamar, Colorado.

Pastor Brent lived a life of love for humanity as he ministered the Word of God to people of all ages and backgrounds worldwide. He declares, “God is The God of A Second Chance.

” Moreover, we ought to “Love thy neighbor as thy self.” (Leviticus 19:18).

His ministry teaches, “God has created us in his own image” (Genesis 1:27), and he understands everything about us. God knows what is in our hearts, mind, and what is deeply rooted in our souls. He knows our needs, fears, insecurities, worries, and vulnerabilities. Likewise, God knows the desires of our hearts.

In this book, Amazing Grace, Pastor Brent explains how God ministers to us— through his unchanging Word. This book guides the reader step-by-step on how to apply the Word of God in every area of life—every day, with the complete understanding that God gave us his Word— not only to reveal Himself to us but also to care for us.

Pastor Brent had a special anointing with the spiritual gift of “healing”—by the “laying on of hands” ( Acts 8:14–19) to the sick, elderly, disabled, and he was the voice to the voiceless and comfort to all that knew him.

Today, his vision and teachings continue, as he passed on the gauntlet to his daughter, Carolyn A. Brent, an American writer, elder care & caregiver advocate. Through Pastor Brent’s teachings— together, their written work is located in the Library of Congress, the libraries of Harvard, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and numerous other medical centers, universities, and retail outlets worldwide.

Book Review: Like a good coach, Brent (The Caregiver’s Companion, 2015) inspires action. At 61, she is a buff, beautiful bodybuilder who transformed her life by leaving a cheating spouse, going to the gym, controlling her spending, and eating healthy food. She wants to empower others to follow in her disciplined footsteps. In her how-to guide, each chapter focuses on a different area, such as exercising or developing a meal plan, and includes questions such as, “Are you eating foods that are laced with preservatives, GMOs, and other harmful chemicals?” She offers a surprising amount of health advice for an MBA, though usually, it’s pretty basic. Skeptics may roll their eyes when she talks about “eating to blood type” or when she tells them they need to live in their “own divine light.” But she also quotes the Chinese saying, “If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” Brent’s positive, inspiring messages about self-love, giving back, and rejoicing should resonate with many. — Booklist
