A cry for help for our seniors

Dear Ms.Tavenner and Ms. Mann:
Please may I draw your attention to a recent lead article in the San Francisco Chronicle on the very unsettling process being used by the California Department of Health and Human Services to determine eligibility for the new CBAS program.

While we are fully supportive of efforts to manage costs and eliminate fraud Secretary Diana Dooley and Director Toby Douglas have not been willing to engage in meaningful dialog with us despite several requests.  Each non-profit in the San Francisco Bay Area has horror stories of how its clients are being treated in interviews and hearings. They make mockery of any claims to person-centered care.  Far from preventing institutionalization the CDHHS actions will increase it.

I am sure that this was not the intention of CMS when it signed off on California’s CBAS initiative. Click link to review the entire article: California: many ineligible for new adult day care
