Today, I’d like to share with you a recent interview I had with Carolyn when I got to ask her on the subject of Words, Home and the “ME” in Self-Care. I hope you enjoy it.

 ——-

ANDREW MONDIA: Why do the words we speak– play such an important role in the transformation process?

CAROLYN A. BRENT: I have spent a long time thinking about the right title for this book because words are important. They can inspire or deflate. Ignite or extinguish. Drive you to action or move you to despair.

The words others use against us have power. But the words we use against ourselves are infinitely more powerful: “I am not worth it.” “I can’t.” “I give up.” We have all used those words against ourselves at some point in our life, and the results can be devastating.

On the flip side, words of joy and confidence help us achieve our dreams: “I am beautiful inside and out.” “I love myself.” “I am so worth it.”

How do I know this? I know because of my own journey and talking to literally thousands of people who are searching for the answers and actions to age with grace, health, and wisdom.

ANDREW MONDIA: Why is it important to put the “me” in self-care?

CAROLYN A. BRENT: Self-care is simply caring for yourself no matter what the cost. It is about putting yourself first. I’m not talking about being selfish. What I am talking about is understanding that you cannot care for others unless you care for yourself. It’s just like love. You cannot love someone else truly unless you love yourself.

Self-care is loving yourself. It is saying that you are important and then following through with consistent action.

ANDREW MONDIA: What importance does our home play in our transformation?

CAROLYN A. BRENT: Great question! First, I’d like to remind everyone about the importance of structure, which is the foundation before the transformation begins.  Transformation requires structure and control that makes you repeatedly do what needs to be done to achieve your goals—no matter if they are a personal, professional, and, or living space.

Think about how does your dwelling place make you feel? Do you feel peaceful and relaxed?  Do you feel proud or embarrassed about your home when you have an unexpected guest? Is your space full of clutter, where you can’t think straight?

Think about it–can you remember the last time you experienced a thought-provoking aha moment?

You know, that particular moment that suddenly gives you a clear vision or specific understanding that can change in an instant everything you’ve been thinking about.
