Now for some good news. In California, I will be a speaker at a legislative oversight committee hearing at our State Capitol in Sacramento, California on September 2012. I was asked to testify regarding my experience involving vexatious legislation. The hearing has been entitled “Why Wait?” based on the information provided by my bestselling book Why Wait?

Caregiver Empowerment Strategist Carolyn A. Brent spoke at the legislative oversight committee hearing on March 13, 2012 at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California. Ms. Brent presented her experience a as caregiver in full detail. She is holding the 5″ binder she created while caring for her father containing 12 years of: medical, financial, and legal records.
For those who don’t know what vexatious legislation is, it is a baseless legal action which is brought on solely to harass or subdue an adversary. Those who have read my book know that I was a victim of such a malicious lawsuit myself and one of my goals has been to put an end to such frivolous actions. I hope to close the gap that I identified between the state and federal authorities, by making it harder for long-time caregivers to be displaced by siblings who have not been involved in the care of their elderly parents. The aim of this hearing is to place a bill on the 2013 California ballot which will protect victims of vexatious legislation. I was also selected to be a board member of Alzheimer’s Services of East Bay (ASEB) where I will get a chance to meet and interact with like-minded individuals who are passionate about the rights of caregivers.
