by Sharon Kelly Hake,
Thanks, Dames, for joining our powerful conversation with Carolyn Brent, self-care thought leader, wellness guru, bodybuilder, and Great Dame! Carolyn gave us the greatest gift — permission to love thyself. I hope you received it convincingly. Carolyn sparked an incredible exchange of ideas and insights about ways we can learn to love ourselves by taking better care of ourselves. Carolyn’s top 3 recommendations for us are to:
1) Be intentional. Become the authority of yourself.
2) Create your village.
3) Do it!
Among Carolyn’s many accomplishments is her work as an “American caregiver empowerment strategist.” Take a look at her caregiver advocacy work in California: Brent testified before the California State Assembly’s Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care
Here are some resources from Carolyn to help you get started on your self-care journey:
Recommend book: “Transforming Your Life through Self-Care: A Guide to Tapping into Your Deep Beauty and Inner Worth”,
NEW Book: Dec 8, 2020: “AMAZING GRACE: How My Father Taught Me to Rejoice in the Word of Our Father”,
NEW Book: Jan 26, 2021: “The Caregiver’s Companion: Caring for Your Loved One Medically, Financially and Emotionally While Caring for Yourself” Paperback

Congratulations to Jarso Saygbe, of Delaware State University, for being selected to win the private one-on-one coaching conversation with Carolyn Brent. Enjoy it!
Let’s honor Carolyn by responding to our call to action to the Great Dames Community: Commit to take at least one action that will help you take better care of yourself going forward. Reach out to another Dame to serve as your accountability partner. Tell us about your experience.
Mark your calendar and join us for our final virtual event of the year on Monday, December 7, to celebrate our “2020 BEST Moments.” Together, we will celebrate our accomplishments and toast to our future. We have some fun surprises planned as well.
Please consider a very special holiday gift to a woman or girl you love — a Great Dames Circle membership. Because you know she’s a Great Dame!
We hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones, whether in person or virtually. We have lots to be thankful for, especially one another.
The following is the most heartfelt letter I have ever received–it simply brought me to tears. Why? Because it is rare for me to receive a simple “Thank You.” A thank you really goes a long way. What’s my point? Take time to say THANK YOU…Because it’s the simple things that really mean a lot.
I am Grateful and Blessed. Amen & Amen.
“Dear Dame Carolyn, I want to thank you for offering us the greatest gift we could ever receive — permission to love ourselves fully and deeply. That’s what you did for the Great Dames community last evening, and it’s something we will never forget. We may have to work hard at it, but now it’s there, in our collective subconscious, and it will never go away.
Your ability to empower us to practice self-care is extraordinary. You have a great gift and you shared it with the Great Dames community. I can’t thank you enough and hope we can find a way to continue working together. Your message is too important, and so needed right now.
Enjoy your time off and rest assured that your work continues in the thoughts and actions of the people you’ve inspired. I’m enjoying your book and stayed up late to read it.
You and Kathy make a great team, and it was felt during our conversation with you. Thanks, Kathy, for ensuring we got to know the power of Carolyn Brent.
Please enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I’m thankful that we’ve met.”
